New colour, same windows

A lot of the uPVC in Sutton-in-Ashfield's houses is perfectly sound. What usually needs changing is the colour: white that has yellowed, or brown that now looks dated. Spraying fixes the colour and leaves the working window where it is.

Each frame is masked individually, cleaned with a solvent cleaner, keyed so the primer grips, primed and then sprayed in thin coats. Glass, sills, brickwork and paths are sheeted before any paint is mixed. The house below is in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Its white uPVC windows and front door were sprayed anthracite grey, with the brick plinth along the front done to match. The white render and porch canopy stayed white, so the dark frames now stand out against them.

Anthracite or grey?

Anthracite is the colour most people ask for first, and on red-brick houses it looks crisp and modern. It is not the only option. Lighter greys such as Manor House Grey or agate are softer and suit rendered or lighter brick houses, and they show less dust between cleans. Black works on smaller cottages; cream and sage suit older properties.

Whatever you choose, we can bring swatches to hold against the house, and the frames, door and garage door can all be sprayed in the same shade so the front reads as one.

Before you book

A few things are worth sorting first. Windows that stick or will not lock need adjusting, and a split frame needs repairing. Misting between the panes means the sealed unit has failed; a glazier can replace it before or after we spray, and the new colour is not affected. We will point out anything like this when we see your photos.

Sutton-in-Ashfield's conservation area

Ashfield District Council has six conservation areas, and one is in the town: Sutton in Ashfield Church and Market Place. The council's guidance is that changes to the external appearance of a building in a conservation area may require planning permission, because some permitted development rights are curtailed there.

If your house is inside that area, check with the council before changing the colour of anything at the front. Elsewhere in Sutton, colour changes to your uPVC are normally your own choice.
