Respraying uPVC in Derby instead of replacing it
New uPVC windows for an ordinary three-bedroom semi can cost several thousand pounds. If the frames still open, close and seal properly, most of that money buys nothing but a new colour. Respraying gives you the colour without the rest of the bill.
We travel over from Nottingham along the A52 and spray on site: frames cleaned and degreased, keyed, masked, primed where the surface needs it, and finished in thin coats. Glass, brickwork and sills are sheeted before any paint is mixed. The photographs below show a common change — a white bay-fronted semi taken to anthracite, front door included.

What we spray in Derby homes
Windows and bays. Derby's inter-war bay-fronted semis and its newer estate houses both suit a colour change. See how uPVC window spraying works, from preparation to the final coat.
Front and back doors. A door is usually the first thing people want changed, and the easiest to justify. Handles, letterplates and glass are protected, and the door is closed the same day. More on front door spraying.
Garage doors, fascias and conservatories. Steel and uPVC garage doors, fascia and soffit boards, and conservatory frames inside and out — often done in the same visit so the whole house matches.
Front door and side panel sprayed grey
Fascias and soffits sprayed anthracite
Conservation areas in Derby
Derby has sixteen conservation areas. In ten of them — Allestree, Arboretum, Darley Abbey, Hartington Street, Highfield Cottages, Little Chester, Markeaton, Mickleover, Spondon and Strutts Park — the city council's guidance says planning permission is needed for alterations to doors, windows or roof coverings that face a highway.
A colour change is not the same as fitting new windows, but the council is the one who decides whether it counts. If your house is in one of those areas and the work is on the front, a quick check with Derby City Council's planning team before you book saves a problem later. Rear elevations and houses outside those areas are not affected.

Is spraying right for your windows?
Spraying changes the colour of a sound frame. It will not fix one that has failed. Before quoting, we look for three things: that each window opens and locks properly, that the seals around the glass are intact, and that the frame is not cracked or warped. Misted double glazing is a separate issue — the sealed unit can be replaced by a glazier before or after we spray, and the new colour is unaffected.
If a frame is past saving, we will tell you rather than spray it.
What happens on the day
We arrive in the morning, walk round with you to confirm the colour and which items are included, then mask. Every pane is covered, sills and brickwork are sheeted, and anything near the work — cars, plants, garden furniture — is moved or protected. The frames are cleaned, keyed and primed, then the colour goes on in thin coats. At the end we strip the masking, check every frame with you, and leave the site tidy.
Commercial spraying in Derby
We also spray shop fronts, industrial unit cladding and entrance doors for Derby businesses, usually around trading hours. Our commercial spray painting work covers the details.
uPVC spraying in Derby: questions
Do I need permission to spray my windows in a Derby conservation area?
In ten of Derby's conservation areas — Allestree, Arboretum, Darley Abbey, Hartington Street, Highfield Cottages, Little Chester, Markeaton, Mickleover, Spondon and Strutts Park — Derby City Council says planning permission is needed for alterations to doors, windows or roof coverings facing a highway. If your house is in one of those areas and you are changing the colour of front-facing windows or doors, check with the council's planning team before booking.
How much does it cost to spray uPVC windows in Derby?
Prices start from £75 a window and £160 for a front door. A full house of windows typically comes to between £400 and £900 depending on how many there are and how big they are. Photographs are usually enough for us to give you a figure.
How long does it take?
Most houses take a day or two, including masking, preparation and drying time between coats.
Which colours are most popular?
Anthracite and charcoal grey are the most requested, followed by lighter greys, sage green and black. Any RAL colour can be sprayed, and we can match a sample if you have one.
Can you spray a brown uPVC window a lighter colour?
Yes. Dark brown and woodgrain frames are cleaned, keyed and primed before the colour goes on, so a lighter shade covers evenly.
Can you spray my windows if the glass is misted?
Yes. Misting means the sealed glass unit has failed, not the frame. A glazier can replace the unit before or after we spray, and it does not affect the new colour.
Do I need to be at home while you work?
Only at the start, to confirm the colour and what is included, and at the end to check the finish. We need access to the outside of the house; for internal faces of windows or conservatories we will arrange access with you.
